We Don’t Read Video

I never liked reading. Still don’t. That’s why I got into video.

There’s something people don’t say out loud enough: video exists for people like us. The ones who think in pictures. Who get bored three sentences in. Who need to see it, hear it, feel it moving before it means anything.

That’s not a deficit. That’s the whole point of the medium.

So when I see someone put a paragraph of text on a video — full sentences, explanations, context — I know exactly what happened. They forgot what they were making. They started thinking in words again.

Text on screen should feel like a voice. A word. A phrase. A beat. Then gone. If someone’s actually reading, the video already lost.

The hardest part of motion graphics isn’t the animation. It’s knowing what not to say. Most people skip that part. They write first and animate whatever they wrote. The edit — the real edit, the one where you ask “does this even need to be said?” — that’s where the work is.

Cut until it sounds like something. Not until it says everything.

If you’re a person who never liked sitting still with a page, you already understand this instinctively. Trust that. Video is your language. Don’t fill it with words.

Make something. Start now.

Work, tools, and thinking from someone who ships before ready.
