DMCA Copyright Policy

The short version: most of our tools never send your work to our servers at all — Roll edits video entirely in your browser, and Next keeps your rundown in your own cloud. A few features do host what people upload, and this page is how you tell us something there infringes your copyright, what we do about it, and how to dispute a removal if we get it wrong.

What we host, and what we don’t

Being specific about this matters, because it tells you where to look.

• We do not host your video. Roll edits in your browser; your media never reaches our servers. Next stores your rundown in your own Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox — we hold a pointer, not the file.
• We do host a small number of uploads: logos you upload to Scene, which are served at a public share link; logos and custom font files in a brand kit; and the signed PDF of a media release, kept for your dashboard.

Those hosted items are what this policy governs.

Reporting infringement

Send a written notice to [email protected] with the subject line “DMCA notice”. To be effective under §512(c)(3), it must include all of the following:

1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorised to act on their behalf.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed.
3. Identification of the material you say is infringing, with enough detail for us to find it. A direct URL is best.
4. Your contact information: address, telephone number and email address.
5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the disputed use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
6. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.

An incomplete notice may not be actionable. If yours is missing something, we will tell you what rather than leaving you guessing.

What happens next

When we receive a valid notice we act expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material, and we make a good-faith effort to notify the person who posted it, including a copy of the notice.

Counter-notice

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, send a counter-notice to the same address. It must include:

1. Your physical or electronic signature.
2. Identification of the material and where it appeared before removal.
3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
4. Your name, address and telephone number, a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the district where you live — or, if you are outside the United States, the District of New Jersey — and that you will accept service of process from the party who filed the original notice.

If we receive a valid counter-notice we forward it to the original complainant. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the activity, we may restore the material in 10 to 14 business days.

Repeat infringers

We will terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who are repeat infringers. Two or more valid, uncontested notices against the same account will normally be treated as repeat infringement.

Misrepresentation

Under §512(f), a person who knowingly and materially misrepresents that material is infringing — or that it was removed by mistake — may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys’ fees. This runs in both directions, and we take it seriously in both.
